HALL OF FAMEThere are a lot of ways in order to write the history of soccer. Maybe the most exciting is to tell the champions who have made the story of a great club. And so men in meat and bone become the symbols of entire ages. At the same time abstractions like offside, dribbling, outline orcounter-attack change their natural approach into a name and a surname. And in order to close the circle, weexcit the field remembering that Sunday players are not only myths or heroes: they have, like everybody of us, a private life, a wife, the children, the hopes, the wishes, everyday little homesicknesses. The history of soccer allow the supporters of a team to identify each decade with representatuive player. And that\'s what we havedone with Milan\'s great champions. In this gallery of memories we tell them as football players, as expressionof a style, as irreplaceable personalities in the passagefrom one phase to another of club history. The trophies and the successes obtained in red-black, the statements and thefeatures that have accompanied them, will never leave them.Neither with light shoe hung to the nail, neither at the moment to undertake a normal life after the pomps of competitive soccer. Altafini arrived in Italy from Brazilian side Palmeiras, and helped Milan win the Scudetto in his first season (1959). He won his second Scudetto and was top scorer in 1962. In 1963, Altafini was a member of the Milan team to win the European Cup, the first by an Italian Team, while scoring a record 14 goals in the competition. He is regarded as one of Italy\'s most prolific players, while being remebered for his agility and determination.

Ancelotti arrived from Roma, where he spent eight seasons, winning the Scudetto in 1983. He was one of Arrigo Sacchi\'s first signings, contributing to Milan winning the Scudetto in 1988 & 1992. He was a member of the successive European Cup, European Super Cup & Intercontinental Cup winning sides in 1989 & 1990. Ancelotti was an imposing player, seemingly always in control, being nicknamed the \'Terminator\'. Since his playing days, Ancelotti has embarked on a coaching career which so far has included being an assistant to the Italian National Team, and coach of Reggiana, Parma & Juventus. Current coach of AC MILAN.

Franco Baresi arrived at Milan aged 14, eventually making his debut in 1978. From the very beginning, Baresi wore the famous red and black shirt with immense pride. He became a pillar of strength and a symbol of Milan. Baresi won 6 Scudetti, 3 European Champions Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 3 European Super Cups & 4 Italian Super Cups. Baresi will always be remembered for his determination, courage and leadership which he gave to Milan. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest sweepers in th history of football. Since retiring, Baresi has become Vice President of Milan while being in charge of the youth team. Baresi\'s famous number 6 shirt was retired after his last game to honour this absolute legend.

Capello played with Juventus for 6 seasons before he joined Milan in an exchange deal for Romeo Benetti. He contributed to Milan winning their tenth Scudetto in 1978/79.
Capello first coached Milan, replacing Nils Leidholm during the 1986/87 season, steering Milan to qualify for the UEFA Cup. He returned in 1991/92 replacing Arrigo Sacchi. Many commentators at the time questioned his capacity to coach as many believed that the successful Berlusconi era was coming to an end. Capello responded by winning 3 consecutive Scudetti, acheiving a record 58 games without defeat. With Capello, Milan won the European Champions Cup in 1994, 3 Italian Super Cups, 1 European Super Cup and another Scudetto in 1996. In 1996/97, Capello coached Real Madrid to the Spanish Title before returning to Milan for the 1997/98 season. Capello is the current Roma coach, having won the 2000/2001 Scudetto.

Cudicini arrived at Milan due to Nereo Rocco\'s insistence in 1967. Cudicini was a highly successful goalkeeper, having had successful stints at Udinese, Roma & Brescia. A highly consistent performer, Cudicini was noted for his safe hands and ability to handle crosses. He became a permanent fixture in the all conquering Milan sides of the late 60\'s, winning the Scudetto, European Champions Cup, Cup Winners Cup and Intercontinental Cup. Cudicini\'s son, is currently the goalkeeper of Chelsea.

Donadoni will always be remembered for his creativity and speed on the ball. When Milan bought him, president Berlusconi labelled him as \'the player who would set the San Siro alight again.\' .........and he did!

Gren arrived in 1949, and was a great midfield maestro, who did what he wanted, providing a constant flow of precise passes to the forwards. Known as the "professor", Gren was majestic in providing the crowds with displays of superb technique and a dogged determination to win. Gren was part of the Milan side that won the Scudetto and Coppa Latina in 1950/51.

Gullit arrived from Feyenoord in 1987, teaming up with fellow Dutch players Van Basten and Rijkaard, he helped Milan dominate in Italy and throughout the world. Gullit was an explosive player due to his athleticism and skill which helped him earn the 1988 European Player of the Year award.Gullit won 3 Scudetti, two European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, two European Supercups and three Italian Supercups with Milan. Gullit\'s carrer was hampered by several knee operations, but this still couldn\'t stop him from being a dominant player. In 1993, Gullit moved to Sampdoria, briefly returning to Milan the following season, then back to Sampdoria and finally Chelsea.He became a successful player-coach of Chelsea, then moving to Newcastle United.

Liedholm was an on-field leader who arrived at Milan after starring for Sweden in the 1948 World Cup in Sweden. Besides scoring goals, he was a great provider of assists, rarely missing his targets. A true superstar of the Milan story, Liedholm managed to win 4 Scudetti as a player and 1 as manager of Milan\'s 10th Scudetto winning team in 1979. Leidholm also coached Roma to the Scudetto in 1983.

Lodetti formed a formidable and successful partnership with Gianni Rivera, leading Milan to many successes. Lodetti was rewarded with 2 Scudetti in 1962 & 1968, 1 Coppa Italia in 1967, 1 Cup Winners Cup in 1968 & 1 European Champions Cup 1969. Lodetti finished his career with Sampdoria.

Maldini arrived at Milan in the 1954/55 season. Maldini was a classical & elegant defender, displaying authority in his defending and leadership. He defined the role of libero for the modern game, making it his hallmark. Maldini was the successor to Liedholm as Milan captain, leading the team to the 1963 European Champions Cup against Benfica. Maldini also won 4 Scudetti & 1 Coppa Latina. He has since coached the Italian Under 21 side to 3 consecutive European titles, while also coaching the Italian Senior team and recently Paraguay in the 2002 World Cup.

Massaro was requested by Berlusconi, joing Milan in the 1986/87 season. An attacking midfielder, he made an impact that season, scoring the goal that qualified Milan for the UEFA Cup, in a playoff with Sampdoria. He was loaned to Roma for the next season, but returned and provided Sacchi with options as he was very versatile in many positions. Under Capello, he became a striker, scoring 11 goals to assist Milan winning its 14th Scudetto. Massaro won 4 Scudetti, 2 European Champions Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 2 European & 3 Italian Super Cups.

Nordhal played with Milan from 1949 to 1956. He was no different to both Liedholm & Gren, also making an everlasting impact on Milan. Nordhal was a goalscoring machine, being top scorer in Serie A on 5 occassions. Many believe Nordhal to be the best striker of all time, being unstoppable most of the time. Nordhal won 2 Scudetti & 1 Coppa Latina at Milan before going to Roma for 2 seasons. A truly amazing player!

Prati asked his friends Santin & Maldera who were already Milan juniors, to be presented to Liedholm for a trial. Milan signed Prati, and he played in the juniors until he was promoted to the seniors at 17. Prati found it difficult to get a game, so he was loaned to Salernitana where he made a good impression. He returned to Milan, only to be directed towards Savona. Finally, he returned and under Rocco\'s guidance, Prati became an important element of Milan, scoring regularly for a winger. He will be remebered for his hat-trick against Ajax in the 1969 European Champions Cup final. Overall, Prati won 1 Scudetto, 1 European Champions Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 2 Cup Winners & 2 Italian Cups.
